If I am posting this in the wrong place, please move it to where it should be...

My mechanic (who was quick to say that he is not a body man) was going to take the running board rubber off the running board so I could make my own using the existing rubber as a pattern. He got the clips lose but came across some screws that were recessed into the running board. (is the best way I can describe it). He asked me to check with the folks on this Forum to see if anyone knows how to get those recessed screws loose. Thank you....

They are like any other bolt, rusted in place after all these years. If you can't get them loose, you might have to grind off the heads then deal with the remains with the mats off the car.
