The pedal seems to move around quite a bit when pressing. Is there a solution to make it smoother when pressing? I’ve added a new spring. I posted a couple pics of what it looks like. Thanks for any tips.
It looks like the "grommet" that it goes through is pretty worn out. I would check and see if the Filling Station or any other suppliers have replacements. If not, I would try and make something to tighten it up.
Originally a compression spring and washer held in place by the hooked end of the throttle return spring held tension on the rod. If the spring was not reinstalled the rod can flop around and wallow out the bell crank (throttle arm in earlier years) hole increasing the movement.
Most likely the end where it goes through the carburetor arm is worn. Every one I’ve found that’s really sloppy I’ve found that to be the case. Few of the things to fix it. 1. You can fill the worn area with weld if you have access to a welder. A mig usually works pretty fast to build up, then grind and file off the excess back to the correct diameter. 2. Make up a new one. 3. Buy a new one. Also make sure your toe board isn’t moving around. Not sure if the grommet shown in the picture was aftermarket as I am unaware if 32’s had grommets and I don’t think it was until 34’ when GM started using an all plastic one but I could be wrong. Just ask my wife!
