Just drained the transmission only had 8oz (1/2pint ) free wheel had 0.5 oz (+ 0.25 pint ) read end 41oz ( 2.5 pints ).

Any one know the correct amount. Just want to compare to what I find when I’m done.

Also going to change steering gear box oil.

Thanks for any information, ideas or help.

Glad to help.

And, people who drive and maintain original old Chevrolets are not dummies!
All questions are good questions.

Again, I sure do like your car!

Am I right the drain plug closest to motor is filled on passenger side. The next drain plug is filled right above it. When I went to the top I found a open hole with treads. I assume it should have a plug in it. Is it supposed to have oil ?. I don’t see a drain plug for it. Searching the net but not finding answers I’m looking for. Thanks for the help.

I'm going to say right up front that I'm not a 1932 expert.
Others here are, so I hope they correct me if I'm wrong.

Yes I believe you are right about the first 2 fill points.
The plug on the passenger side (in your 3rd picture) should fill the transmission.
The plug directly above the drain (in your 2nd picture) should fill the over running clutch.
The hole on top without a plug (in your 1st picture) should have a plug in it and is used to add oil to the universal joint when new or after repair work.

I found a cross section of a 1932 transmission, free-wheeling clutch, and universal joint that may help you visualize where things are and where the oil is going.
Hope it helps!

The repair manual list the main section of the tranny as 2-1/2 pts and the freewheeling unit 3/4 pts. It does not list the freewheeling unit but 4 ozs for initial fill is good.
