I have been working on re-finishing the fenders/running boards my 28 coach.I know that gloss black lacquer paint should be used, but i am having difficulties purchasing '' any '' autotmotive lacquer paint in my area. :( Has anyone used any other type of paint other than lacquer on the 4-banger chev's? and how bad of point deductions would occur if lacquer is not used? I am aware that there are some vintage suppliers out there, but the cost is high !!
isn't 28 great

The fenders, splash aprons and running boards were not originally painted with lacquer paint. They were dipped in an enamel type paint. Any single stage paint system will work. I recommend either catalysed enamel or polyurethane. All major automotive paint companies have both. Either is tougher than the original and a bit more shiney to a lot more shiney for the urethanes.

Like Chip said use a good brand acrylic enamel with hardner ,I like Dupont Centari , let it set for a few daye until it is cured ,then water sand with 900 grit wet or dry and compound with a buffer and it will be very hard to tell from lacquer. It will look like new factory fenders.
