I've been having trouble keeping the motor running smoothly on the cold days and began tinkering with the heat riser. I noticed that between the insulator and the carb is a base gasket. It probably isn't adding meaningful insulation, but is one necessary or will the carb clamp tightly enough to the insulator without one? Appreciate any and all thoughts.

I've never seen a carburetor without a gasket between it and the manifold.

The factory DID NOT use a gasket and either have I. More important to have a good solid insulator block.

Tiny, removing the gasket would not put the carb on the manifold, as Gene says, it will sit on the insulator block. Thank you both for the comments.
