The 1955 Chevy 3200 I recently bought has no interior arm rests and I'm planning to add them. My question: Is there a "template" for proper placement or is it more or less personal preference? I just want to make sure that improper placement wouldn't interfere with the window mechanism.

Any insights? Thank you.

i'd remove the inside door handle, rotate it 90 degrees towards the ground. then u can place the arm rest to suite your preferences. good lookin truck. mike

Sorry that I do not have a direct answer due to my lack of experience and knowledge of this series truck.

Mike's point about rotating the door handle is a great catch to avoid problems later. I did not notice that.

The main question is whether or not arm rests were available as either a dealer accessory or part of an optional interior/trim package. If they were, I expect that there are mounting holes in the inner door panel.

Yes there are mounting holes and I believe there are threads in the holes.

The holes are already in the door metal. The accessory instructions give the measuring demensions for finding the holes behind the trim.

I was born in 1955 and had 2 of the 55 to 59 series trucks in past years. One of them was a really base model panel truck with no heater, no radio, no passenger side inside arm rest, along with several other factory omissions as ordered for a service truck in the NW. To add the passenger side arm rest I just carefully measured the threaded holes in the door and drilled some corresponding holes in the door cover plate. It would be covered by the arm rest so it was not going to be an issue if it was 1/16" off center.
