Does anybody have one or a picture of a oil fill tube for a 1940 Chevy Puckup with a 216.

Here's a 38, should be pretty similar.

One kind person offered me one that was about 17 inches from the bottom to the cap. Any idea what that came from?

Is the 17" measurement including the length that goes into the block or did that person measure from block to cap ?

17" would be somewhere near the length of the draft tube that drops down beside the outside of the sump.

They are often filled with sludge between the outter tube and inner baffles. Make sure the innards are clean.

I sent yours today. The picture looks like it, plus, since you acted fast, you are getting the free, bonus, bracket for no additional cost or separate handling fee. Better than "as seen on TV".
I think a soak in some cheap lacquer thinner for a few days would be wise. Gene is on target with regard to sludge.
