We found a paint shop in San Jose, CA that was able to match the original paint on our 1931 Chevrolet DeLux Five Passenger Coupe. They guy at the counter was surprised when we walked in with paint codes & mixing amounts we'd found online. He wasn't sure they could match it, but shot off a call to BASF. BASF was able to find codes & mixing instructions for as far back as 1939. We elected to go with the 1939 Boatswain Blue, hoping it would be a close match for our 1931. After waiting, for what seemed like an hour, a gallon container was produced with a smear of paint on the lid. Hubby touched the smear, finding it still wet he placed a dab on the small panel we brought with us. The match was perfect! We're a long way from painting our car but I know that once it's finished it will look as beautiful as the day it rolled off the assembly line. It may be a bit more expensive but we feel it will be well worth it in the long run. More can be found at : http://www.basf.com/static/OpenMark...675390_pubid-974236850984_c-Article.html

Can somebody get a copy of this CD and send me a copy?? I looked it up and apparently we don't have any distributors here in Washington State... or at least none that were willing to be listed on the Basf web site!! ha!

Bill I called BASF customer service @ 1 800 825-3000, selected option 1 on the menu and talked to a real nice lady who gave me three BASF paint jobbers in the Houston, TX area. One is owned by BASF. So far I have not been able to talk to them but have their address and phone number. Maybe you could try to do the same for the Seattle area.

Bill, the BASF web site says that the CD is free for the asking. So, I used the "contact us" link and filled out the form and requested the CD. :) :cool2:
How high are the odds on this working out right????

sounds like the classic senseless routine. Drum up interest and then say its on back order. I'm sure your paint supplier really is waiting for BASF to get on the stick. Hopefully their CD turns out to be truely useful in finding "modern" equivilants for many discontinued paint colors. Keep us informed and good luck.

I have a friend that works for BASF here in the Toledo area. He told me about the CD a couple of weeks ago, and is going to get me a copy. It apparently has the color matches listed back into the thirties. They used the CD in a couple of their meetings last month.
I only shoot PPG products, but inside help from BASF might be a good thing!!!

There's a teeny, tiny chance that just maybe, if someone could finally get a copy of this rumored CD... that just maybe... someone else just might be able to make a copy of it.... !!! So, all we really need is one of these stickin' things and then we all will have a copy of it shortly!

Why have one copied if they are FREE? I think I'll contact them for a copy as well.

Ha ha.... You missed the point!! We've never been able to get our hands on a single one of these CDs since finding out about them over 4 or 5 months ago!! I don't think they really exist!!! They're like a 1931 boat-tail speedster... lots of rumors of sightings, but no body really knows anyone that owns one!!! ha ha... oh, well, let's just enjoy this 'ol snipe hunt... but the offer remains, that if anyone can get theirs hands on ONE of these little puppies, then within a couple of days... we'll all magically have one!!!

Back to the CD from BASF. The CD's are in a manager's desk drawer here in Toledo. My friend says that he has a copy of it for me, but he has not been able to copy it. I should get it after he's done playing with it.
Apparently, they did not expect to get this many repsonses, so soon and they are not ready to make the CD's for production.
I'll let you know when I get it.
Chris
