On 33's-34's -35's and 36's there is a throttle linkage. Pretty much the same on all. It is held on by a stud in the side of the engine block. My 33 does not have that stud and it looks like there never was one. How can that be?
Don't know about '33 engine blocks but the '32 engine blocks used a shoulder bolt to mount the throttle linkage. Later there was a stud don't know if it started in '33 or '34.
Chip was right, there is a shoulder bolt, not a stud like on 33 Standards, 34's 35's and 36's. I had the right linkage, just not hooked up right. Took the manifolds off and fixed it. Throttle cable seems a little short but it works.
Hi chip I am wondering if you know what size shoulder bolt goes in the 32? Also wondering what springs might hook up. Here is a picture of my current linkage that I’m trying to fix. I see how things link up but trying to figure out what bolt to use. Thanks!
My parts book list a 1/4x1-1/32"' bolt. I would guess the shoulder length would be just enough to allow some movement of the bell crank lever. Check with The Filling Station for the spring. It slips over the accelerator rod and attaches to a clip at the bell housing.
M006840 thank you so much for the info! I have a parts book but was struggling to find what i was looking for. This is a spring I ordered from filling station. Are you saying there aren’t any other springs in the linkage? Thanks again!
Originally just the one on the rod to the pedal. I have an extra on my 32 at the carb. It is a back up as if the one on the pedal rod breaks it could go to full throttle. I had the bolt drop out while on a tour and the back up worked like a charm-stayed right at idle. Luckily the bolt was laying in the engine splash pan but installing with a hot manifold was not fun.
Thanks for the help m00684!. That is really helpful to know but unfortunately I didn’t find the bolt in the pan. Here is what the linkage looks like right now. I’ve been looking everywhere, reading online, buying manuals, service news trying to figure out this linkage so your help is greatly appreciated.
I really can’t thank you enough. Just to confirm you have a shoulder bolt in the linkage. Other than that I think I have what I need to get this fixed. The linkage picture is really helpful to see how things are positioned. Also I like the safety net spring.
Photos attached. In the second photo just under the head of the bolt is the lever for the throttle cable. So in addition to the thickness of the lever also the shoulder on the bolt needs to be long enough for the throttle lever or arm or what ever it is called. The photo in your first post shows that part. Basically it cradles the throttle bellcrank arm.
Thanks for the additional pictures! Very helpful. I got the linkage together but not quite right with the cable. Based on your pic the cable needs to rotate down. We started it up and gas pedal responded well.
