All threads and responses from the early morning of 1/21/22 till mid day 1/21/22 were lost. (They can not be recovered)

We are still investigating the cause.

For those wanting more detail: A loose end of the software update was a need to change the MSSQL database configuration related do an incorrect language setting. (Geeky I know)

A backup of the database was made the morning of 1/21.

Another backup was in process mid day 1/21 when, for as yet to be determined reason, the system crashed and the database became corrupted.

The only solution was to restore from a 12 hour old backup. (The reason for lost posts)

Once the backup was restored all was well (except for the lost posts)

Ruben, (a tech helping with the software update) will be attempting the language setting fix again sunday and fingers crossed the problem doesnt happen again.

Sorry for the problem.

Thank you Peter and Reuben!

I know that at times we all get frustrated with computers, software, and the internet.

On the other hand I will be the first to admit that without this forum I would not have the knowledge of old Chevy’s that I have, my car would not be in anywhere near the great condition it is today, and I would not have developed the great relationships I enjoy.

I cannot imagine how one moved forward in this collector/classic car hobby before the internet and forums such as VCCA Chat.

I think Peter that explains some of the strange happenings on my computer such as 37 Email notifications of post I am following (NOT). I reset my preferences so today I only have one even though I checked NOT to Email notices. Hopefully the system will catch up. Updates are always fun. My last five years in the parts business I worked in a call center and every time the system administrator said he was going to do a 1 hour update we spent the next couple of days chasing " 'gremlins".

Nearly everytime software updates there are glitches, some arent noticed others cause a 2 week outage. I have noticed a few post had characters that I doubted the poster put there the last couple of nights.

The database update is complete now.
It did not catch all the weird characters you might see in a post but I see quite a few corrected that did have them that I was tracking.

Now that the database is 4 byte instead or 3 byte(Geek Stuff)

There is a new feature for people with windows computers.
Emoji's
Well it was built into windows all along but would not work here before.

They can be inserted just about anywhere including emails documents , etc.
It is built in to windows as a popup by pressing The win key and period key at the same time.
Then just click on the ones to use to make them appear wherever you cursor is at.

There is no such thing as stupid questions.
Just stupid answers.

Another geek term!

Win key is the key on your keyboard that has the Windows symbol on it. Normally you can press it in combination with another key to trigger a certain action.

Well... nothing ventured nothing gained. Tried to remove all the weird special characters that have been lingering for ages without success.

If you posted anything after 12noon today (1/24) it might have gotten lost is the shuffle.

Sorry for any inconvenience.
