I'm asking this question for a fellow I met today on a tour we were on to Campbell River B.C.
He has a 29 Light Delivery Panel and would like to know what the shroud is called that goes from inner front fender to inner front fender below the radiator at the same level as the bumper? Is it the same as the one on my 32 coach? He seems to think that the engine crank goes through this shroud on a 29 shroud. Once I know what to call it and what year specific it is then I can put in a want add.
Thanks Guys.

I've always called it a radiator apron or radiator splash apron. I can't say for sure if that is the "official" terminology, but everyone seems to know what I'm talking about.

Are these radiator splash aprons specific to certain years? By this I mean, will a 29 fit a 31, etc.
And does anyone reproduce these?
And were they standard on 31 1/2 ton pick up trucks?
Thanks

The Chevrolet parts book calls it a "radiator splash guard" and it is the same for the 1929 and 1930 trucks. laugh laugh laugh laugh

No.

If you have old Chevrolets, other old Chevrolets will find out where you live.

So if a fella was looking to buy a pair of different ones...........where in the dog's junkyard playground would he be able to find one?
Would Elvira be close by to help?

Now I'm confused...

I think my '31 has all of the sheetmetal, but Dan's description doesn't describe anything hanging off of my truck!

The part I think of as the "Radiator Splash Apron" goes between the frame rails, in front of the bottom of the radiator, and behind the bumper. It completes the bottom of the radiator shell, covers the tops and sides of the front of the frame, and has a hole in it for the engine crank. Is this the part that we are talking about?

If so, I don't know of anyone that reproduces it, but I can post a picture of mine so Dan and 31 truck can refer to it.

Hey '31 Truck: You would be able to find one at the second tree on the right in JYD's little boneyard and Elvira is always there to serve has hostess for visitors.

Grumpy: Yes, were are talking about the radiator splash apron that you described. A photo would be great to help the guys out so that they would know what a 1931 truck radiator splash apron looks like. yipp laugh laugh laugh

The '31 1/2 ton and passenger car used the same radiator splash guard. The '32 1/2 ton also used the same one. The '31 1 1/2 ton trucks used one that looked similar but was different on the ends toward the bumper. '29-'30 trucks used a different one. It was also different from the '29-30 passenger (called a cow catcher by some).

Yes please do post a picture of the splash gaurd. The fellow is on Vancouver Island and has no computer but I'm sure I can find someone in his club I could forward it to.
Thanks

When I came home last night it was dark so I didn't get out to the truck to take the picture. I was thinking though, the splash guard was not mounted on the truck when I bought it...I have it in the bed now, under a cover.

I assume it is for the truck, but the guy I bought the truck from MIGHT have bought the splash shield rather than take it off of the truck, and so it might be the wrong one. I know that he traded the radiator shell with a '31 car for some bizarre reason, maybe he wanted a beat-up chrome one instead of the black one it had.

Anyway, I'll check to see if it fits first, then post the picture. We'll have to rely upon Chevy Chip or one of the other TA's to tell us if it is the right one.

Sorry I didn't think of this earlier, but it still might help.

Grumpy

OK, here they are (not the greatest pictures, but I was in a hurry):

And, while I was in a hurry, I messed up the photo site on 123Testing.com! I'll have to fix it later, gotta run.

Hope this helps, if not I can try again another day.

Lenn.

Dan, I forgot to mention something... the guy I bought the truck from told me that the clip nuts that hold these things on are really hard to find. They resemble a later model clip nut, only they are HUGE and the threads are cut into a large block of steel (rather than being simply a twisted hole through the thin gauge steel of the clip). Maybe a photo would help here also, when I get another chance.

Good Luck,

Lenn.
