What's the method for removing the outside door handle ferrule. I can see where parts of the barrel were expanded, like little tabs, to hold it in place. I'm hopeful someone will confirm the latch assembly doesn't have to be removed.

I think it is made of brass. It should be softer than the door skin so you can just get a little forceful and remove it without distorting your door skin. If you want to re-use the ferrule, you might want to remove the latch assembly to get access to the inboard end of the ferrule for some needle nose pliers work before removal. Good luck.
