I have an old National Cash Register that I need some information for. I have some keys for it which got me into trouble. Before I tested the keys, the actual price keys would travel down, the drawer would open and the bell would ring. After trying to see if the lock keys would work, the only way to open the drawer now is by depressing a button under the front bonnet. The price keys do not budge now. Has anyone ever restored an old cash register? Know anyone who knows more about it that I do? Thanks.
VCCA members have access to a list of over 50 Technical Advisors who can help you with your car. It's worth the price of membership! While you can get a lot of information for free in this forum, sometimes the info that you REALLY need is only available from the right person. This is what "The World's Best Chevrolet Club" is all about!
Dave, thanks for checking. I think this register was refurbished by the company listed on the sticker in one of the bins. The shipping info is not on the bottom of the drawer but you can see where it was.
Here's a National Cash Register we purchased about 5 years ago at the Pate Swap Meet. It's a 1911 made in August. The guy who restored it worked for National Cash register all his life. After retiring he restored old Registers.
I posted this to get information so I can repair this cash register. If you are a person that has repaired/restored a cash register OR knows of someone who does repairs/restorations, I would like to hear from you. Opinions do not fix things - facts do!
There are a couple internet sites where people own and work on old registers. My neighbor who’s a professional polisher is currently working on a real nice brass register. Try face book also for some old cash register groups.
Hawkeye, I can't remember the name of the show or where its located but not long ago there was a TV program that did restorations on lot of stuff like cash registers, candy and drink machines lots of other stuff. perhaps a connect there would help? Worth the try. Its nice to have a piece of history sitting around.
(back when I did a lot of wood work I build me one out of wood to use at the show. Good conversation piece for sure) Good luck on the real deal.

I'd rather walk and carry a Chevy hubcap than ride in a Ferd.
