Unfortunately the answer is not as simple as we might like. Can you provide details about the vehicle as well as if this is the original or a later model replacement engine? Is it a carburetor or fuel injected engine. Does it have conventional points and coil ignition or an HEI?
That will help us.

I agree with Gene If I remember right, when HEI came out, GM recommended .060". But from 1976 on they changed that to .045".

It is in a K20 pickup that I bought brand new back in 79. Has original engine and and all equipment is original to the vehicle. Just runs a little rough and has a miss on the right bank.

I would also suspect the plug wires.
