Howdy,

Would anyone be able to advise me on the best place to locate an ignition switch for my 1934 Chevy truck? This isn't something I could find at Napa, right? Also, I where might I find a wiring diagram for this? I know it's not very complicated, but want to make certain I wire it properly. Lastly, I have read that all Chevy's regardless of year were negative ground. Is this correct?

Thanks

I'm assuming the 34 was an electrolock switch?? If so are you missing your switch? Does it need rebuilt? If it's an electrolock switch and needs rebuilt you can do that.

There is no switch at all in my green 1934 dump truck. The white grain truck does have a switch, but it's being stubborn at this time. It is soaking in BP at this time and hopefully I can remove it. As to whether it's an electrolock switch, I have no idea. Should I share a photo once I get it removed to ID or is it easy to ID on my own?

You can't miss an electrolock switch. it will have an armored cable coming out the back going all the way to either the ignition coil or the distributor, depending on the model year.

Yup, the green truck does not have one of those. My white grain truck does have an ignition in it still that once I can loosen the nut around the ignition switch, I will remove it to see what that one looks like. I will also need to get a tetanus shot before crawling under the dash to remove it talk

Hi Roman

If you are looking to go original, I think what you are looking for would be as pictured below.
One pic shows the engine with the coil end of the electoloc visible.
Another shows the complete unit itself.
And I threw in a screen shot of an example of what you are looking for that sold on Ebay some time back.

I am not as concerned about originality as functionality most of the time, but if I need to replace anything on the truck, I would prefer to go with original of course. I don't see that either truck has the electoloc going to the coil and I had forgot until now that I have a photo I took of the backside of the ignition switch which does in fact show that it is not the electoloc. I am going to assume that finding one, such as the one that sold on Ebay some time back, is a tall order, no?

There are usually some after market ones on ebay. My 1934 Master electrolock went bad. After market ones work fine. The original ones have to be pried apart.

Roman,
I think you are correct that an original '34 Electrolock would be hard to find. It also requires a very specific coil to make it all look and functuion as original. A generic 6 volt coil and switch from a local auto parts store can be wired to work well. Since only about 1 out of 1000 people who would look under your hood would know what it is supposed to look like, a neat and orderly installation should serve you well.
There is a wiring diagram in the back of some shop manuals of the period.

Howdy,

I am close to attempting to start my engine in my 1934 truck once I receive my rebuilt carb back and only need to install the ignition switch I bought at Napa. This leads me to my question, what wires go where on the back of this switch? It has 3 posts and only one is labeled "bat".

Warm regards
