Gentlemen,

I have an original 36 Chevy Master with 6V 207 engine.

yesterday (it happened last week too) my car has stopped after an hour's run,? it felt like it was running out of gas and wouldn't start but after 10 min of wait the car fired up and I quickly got to a gas station, what I notice is that twice I had to gas up 7 gallons of gasoline. I did empty the glass bowl yesterday and I notice on the refill the gas came out reddish in color but once it fired up I was able to get to the gas station 5 miles away(with my fingers crossed) any ideas?

I had the carb rebuilt and I have replaced the fuel pump too.

Thank you

Marco SR

If it would start right-up after 10 minutes it is not gas related. it is an iignition problem. Probably coil or condenser.

When my 35 did that it was the Coil getting hot. Once it cooled it would start. I replaced the Coil and the problem was solved.

Can you let me know what is the right replacement coil number, I notice my coil has no numbers or logos and the bracket is welded to the coil, I have also seen some Coil replacements without using the top cover that connects into the ignition key.

Thank you.

The bracket welded to the Coil is the original one. The replacements had the bracket and coil seperate. I don't know if there are any numbers or logos on them.

538Z is a common Delco Remy replacement. It is a universal type, in that it has a separate bracket and should come with multiple adapters to make it fit different style electrolock caps.
There is a correct era aftermarket replacement on eBay. The title says Chrysler but it is a Delco replacement with the correct adapter. Here is a link.

Cheesecloth inside the gas tank? Can you elaborate on that? Glad you got it fixed.

Ok Cheesecloth. The gas tank had a lining, within the time it broke loose due to bad gas sitting inside the tank,
When I took the Gas Tank to Commercial Radiators in AZ, I was told that the gas tank lining had to be burned off with torches before resurfacing the interior, my gas tank was like a dessert once I drain the gas, My gas filter is heavy and full of dirt sand, crazy stuff.

My apologies but English is 2nd language.
