I have NEVER heard of indivulal parts being available for lifters and have been in the Chevrolet parts business since 1950.

Is the 235 from a car or truck?

Lifter applications
5230650 1950-1952 5230850 1953 - was replaced by 5230650 in 1957 or about that time as a replacemnt part 5231450 1954 -1958\ 5231830 1959-1962
Junk sold today is usually one lifter to cover all applications I would watch for your correct 1956 lifter on Ebay Lifters were designed for cam lift, valve spring tension and changes to oiling system and cam lobe.
