So far I have purged the entire fuel system from the tank to the carb and added fresh fuel. I pulled all of the plugs and made sure they were in new condition with a gap of .040. I did a compression check and all of the cylinders were within 5psi of each other..80, 85, 85, 80, 80, 85. Checked the number one plug for spark, and checked the static timing against the flywheel marks and #1 on the distributor. Brand new 6vdc battery. I sprayed atomized fuel into the updraft carb while cranking and nothing.. Nada, not even a little pop to let me know there was hope, so I switched to 'Starting Fluid'... Nope, dead and stinking. I must be losing it, I do not remember the last time I could not solve a basic compression, fuel and ignition problem. I am open to anything I may be missing.....Ap

How long since it last ran? What work has been done on the car since it was last running normally?

All the Best, WLB

Things change on these cars all the time. What was working one day may no be working the next week. Sounds like you have good compression, so it is either fuel or spark. Turn the key on and with the passenger side of the hood open pull one of the spark plug wires off. Hold that wire about 1/8" away from the plug and with your left hand push down on the starter linkage. If you have spark then you need to go one step further and confirm the correct timing and firing
sequence. If that is all correct then move on to the fuel delivery.

I find on my coupe if it sits for awhile the carburetor inlet float needle can stick.

Based on what you describe, I would lean towards an ignition issue. Have you tried cleaning the points and replacing the condenser?

It may be a grounding problem in the electrock ignition switch also.

Pull #1 plug and turn the engine over until you feel the compression on your finger. Then check the location of the rotor in regards to the cap. You might be off 180d. I’ve gotten asked to work on someone’s car they can’t get started and after I check the distributor is when they tell me someone had it out.
