Trying to get access to the rear brakes and can't get the wheel hubs off. I assumed they pry off over the axle studs but no luck. Help appreciated.

I'm not familiar with the '35, but my '36 drums come off the studs, Is there an additional cap screw?

The differential cover must be removed and the C llocks removed and axle shafts removed, Bst to see in shop manual.

I read the shop manual but it's still not clear to me how the cover (wheel) separates from the front of the brakes. The rear does not have a cap or nut to remove as the front's do. There are not nuts attaching it from the rear side where the brake cable attaches either. If I take the axle shaft out, what does that give me? As in, what do I do after that?

Do you not have the brake drum off?

Do not . . . that's my issue. The rear tire and wheels are off but I don't know how to proceed. I thought the wheel/cover/lug covering the brake drum would slide off but it won't. I tried to pry it off with a couple of screwdrivers between it and the rear flat flange where the brake cables are attached. It will not budge. I could get the axle shaft out but don't see how that gives me access to the brake drums in the end.

I assume you did the obvious and "do not" have the emergency brake on.

Gene is correct. I was told that the '36 axle was the first year it came apart like the more modern cars. Before that it either had a hub held on with a nut, or you had to pull the entire axle.

Now I wonder how to remove the drum for replacement. It seems a lot of work to remove the axles to do a brake job. My GreyRock manual goes back only to 1936, and my 1935 Motors manual does not cover removing the drums.

You will need to remove the differential cover (after draining the oil) then remove the pinion shaft retaining screw. shaft and spacer block. Now you can push the axles in and remove the locking "C" clip and the axle/drum assy. can be removed.

That makes me glad I have a '36, owned it since mid '70s and have seen the brake linings a few times so far.
