I have a 56 Belair 235 that has been sitting for 10 years of so with cylinder head removed. I would now like to set # 1 cylinder to TDC, however without a crankshaft bolt am unable to
rotate motor using crank pulley. Am tempted to crank starter to free up cylinders but do not want to damage the starter or ring gear.
Any ideas??
Thanks in advance.
Regards,
Weston

Use a large screwdriver and try leveraging it against the ring gear teeth.

If the bores are still shiney you may well be lucky but if the bores are rusted you will need to pull the engine and rebuild.
