Does anyone happen to know what the numbers are for the front and rear bearings in the 1946 Chevrolet passenger vehicle three speed transmission. And if so, preferably Timken numbers. If not, GM will do. I don’t want to pull the transmission out of the car and dissected until I have the parts to repair and reinstall it. I already have too many nonfunctional cars hanging around now!

Hi Rusty,
Wondering if you might consider my transmission rebuilding process. I sourced a donor transmission, rebuilt it at my leisure, and then one Saturday pulled the old one out. The next morning, I put the new one in. No downtime. I was able to source two donors for $100. I might even have a spare in my attic.

That could be a good option. Are you offering a transmission? 1941-48? I have plans to go to the junkyard and get one from the early ”˜50s for the gears, and may do that soon. The older case, rear main shaft, and shift components could come in handy.

Hi Rusty,
Sorry I was busy this weekend and didn't get around to answering. Yes...I'd be willing to part with my extra transmission. There is one piece missing. In the mechanism that takes the input from the shift lever and moves the forks around to shift the gears in the transmission there are two ball bearings and springs to keep things in a particular gear/location. When taking my new transmission apart, one of these ball bearings launched somewhere in my basement. I stole one from this transmission. Other than that, it's "as found".
Here is the line in the parts book that I think it is (and it says the size...so it should be easily sourced)
Lastly...have you found Jayhawker on Youtube yet? He does a great video of the disassembly and reassembly of this transmission. Let me know if you can't find him and I'll link it directly.

My book shows New Departure # 43207 L1250 A for the driveshaft shaft and Hyatt 7450057 for the front main shaft which was a package of 14 rollers.

Missed one;

Rear main shaft New Departure 43305 X1250A.

Back when these were stocked items most jobbers only used the 43207 and 43305 numbers and that is what you might find in cross references. In the past I have had good luck with the company- Locate Bearings in finding ND ball bearings.
