I use a 35w/35w halogen prefocus bulb in my 1938 headlights. I bought them from the Bill Hirsch Co. I was looking for some spares and found out that they apparently don't carry them anymore. However I found them at The little British car Company, lbcarco.com. They give me excellent headlight performance.

What a coincidence. Just last night noticed one of my headlights on my 38 is out, went on the forum today, not for that reason, and saw your post. Could be a fuse,or bulb could be shot. Was considering replacing both down the road anyway to something brighter. I looked in the manual how replace the bulb and there are not clear instructions. Any tech support from you how you did it? Thanks, Larry

HighSierra,
the ring around the glass lens has a clamp at the bottom which you must loosen. That allows the glass to be removed. The bulb is on a spring loaded mount. You will need to rotate the bulb counter clockwise , somewhere about 10 degs and it will release. If the bulb is really old, the glass may separate from the base so be careful of your fingers. Corrosion somewhere could cause the bulb not to light. If only one is dark, it is not a fuse problem. A single fuse at the ammeter feeds all the lighting in the car.

Oh I think the bulb number is 2330 not 2030 as I posted.

I don't remember the number specifically but I think it's 2530 that I use in my 38, Even with reflectors that need resilvering the light is more than adequate for driving at night. They are 50cp high and 32cp low beam. I found a lifetime supply of NOS bulbs a few years ago. I believe repops are available.

This is an update on my bulbs. My 35/35W bulbs arrived this morning, one day after being shipped from MI by FedEx. I have never experienced such a fast delivery! The bulbs are the ones I wanted and tested out to be fine. Just prior to this, I was looking for my spare bulbs and ended up buying two 25/25W halogen bulbs from another vendor. I was looking at those today and the filament placement is actually about 1/4" closer to the base than it should be. So those two 25W bulbs I would consider to be junk. They would never produce a proper pattern.

Just to clarify, were the 35w ones with the correct filament placement the lbcarco ones?
