I have a new set of safety glass for my 1928 coach, has anyone had luck removing the old glass from the bottom metal track that the glass sits in without cracking or breaking the glass?
Or did you resort to just smashing the old glass and then prying out the pieces stuck in the metal channel of the base?

Hi Todd,

I was able to remove the tracks without breaking the glass by placing a piece of paper board over the glass to protect it and CAREFULLY used a small hammer and a squared off punch to knock the channel loose. You'll likely need to alternate which end and side of the track to tap on and take your time but it is possible. If it is stubborn, you could also heat the channel with a small propane torch to help break it loose. Having said all of that, if the glass breaks it's not the end of the world.

Lay the glass on flat Ben on top of a piece of rug with the channel just off the edge of the bench. Use a hardwood block and a hammer and drive the channel off the glass. If the glass slides further off the bench, keep sliding it back on. Keep the hardwood block parallel to the glass when hitting it with a hammer. I remove the bottom sashes like this all the time.
