I'm needing to identify engine model/displacement/year from casting numbers or other numbers on engine block, intake manifold, exhaust manifold, transmission.
There must be a chart somewhere. I haven't found it, yet.
I have what I believe is a '39 216 engine in a '35 Pick-up. I located what is reputedly to be a '35 engine to transplant back into the truck.
I'd like to id the transmission, also.
Other folks have been trying to get me to buy their parts/engines, but they have no good information as to model year/displacement.
Photo is supposedly the '35 Engine.

I have a copy of a great reference book:

Chevrolet
Casting - Forging - Stamping
Identification
Number Sequence Listing

Six Cylinder Models
1929-1942

Also Tons of info on google :)

this is a good resource as well:
http://1954advance-design.com/Stovebolt-engine/casting-numbers.html
http://outintheshop.com/faq/casting/castings2.html

looking at the casting number looks to be May 16, 1935
typical letter equal month, a=jan, b=feb
then day of month 16
then last digit of year 35
image is too small for me to see the casting block number

I've used the Stovebolt engine/casting number source before and it says a 1935 block should be an 837591.
It's hard to tell from the picture, but to my eye it looks like that's the number on your block.
