My 1928 Coach needs new rubber installed on the running boards. The original rubber had little rubber tabs that poked through small holes in the metal boards themselves. The replacement rubber does not have the little tabs, what is the best adhesive to secure the new rubber matting to the running boards?
Thanks,
Todd

Use Contact cement. Apply to both mat and board and let get tacky before you lay it. Once they make contact you should pull them apart. Mask off board where you do not want glue. Be very careful not to stretch the mat when laying it and it's easy to stretch. If you do it will wind up being too lone. I did my 35's in the 70's and they are still good. I was told to put the cement on both, lay a piece of wax paper down, lay the mat down then pull out the wax paper but it didn't work for me.

If you use flat strips of wood like paint stirrers or even 1/4" dowels they will slip right out and the rubber mat will lay right in place. Start from one end and one at a time take them out. Smooth and press as you go and it will lay flat without wrinkles.
