Now my ammeter only shows a discharge with the engine running. It shows slightly more discharge with the ignition on and engine off. What did I fry? 1940 chevy pickup. Thanks for all that reply.
P.S. I tried to check output at regulator to bat but my multimeter bounces from 0.5 to 18. I tried to check field from gen to ground but my meter bounces around as well. I used new battery in my meter.

You don't say how long you left it hooked up. It really should not have damaged anything. I suggest you polorize the generator and see if that solves your problem.

Only about 30 seconds. I'll try to polarize.
Thanks. Mark
