I have a ”˜49 Chevy 3100 PU that has a 235 engine ”˜60 block and a ”˜56 head. What type of oil do you recommend and why? Thanks everyone!

Thanks that’s what I thought but wanted to run it through here. Do you recommend an engine cleaner to clean out all the old oil and crud that might be in there? If so, what kind? Thanks Chev Nut!

I'd leave well enough alone. Trying to get the crud out may just give you more oil leaks than you an imagine.

Any 10w-30 oil today is way better than any oil available in 1960. I would not spend the money for a full synthetic oil.

I agree that I would not try any type of cleaner/sludge remover. You might stir up more than you really want.

If you are worried about crud in the engine the pan could be dropped easily and then just use good oil.

Worried or not this is good advice to start fresh and also have a quick look at the internals and check clearances.
