Something I can’t figure out.
My original 1938 Chevy 1/2 ton pickup :
Where the brake pedal attaches to the front of the master cylinder where manual shows a return spring... but there is no room for a spring.
It’s right behind and right next to the bell housing and the clutch fork.
Just doesn’t seem to be any room for a spring.

Yes that may be the answer, a long straight connecting wire under the clutch fork to a spring out past it where there’s more room.
