In the process of putting my 31 back together, checking my questionable memory, pictures, notes, and the catalog and it is a challenge. The catalog says there is a spacer for the folding luggage rack attachment for cars with a full bumper. Anyone have dimensions on that spacer?

Thanks

Dave

Does anyone have a close up picture of the rack mounting on their car? If you can't post you can email me at doc81709@yahoo.com.

Thanks

Well I mounted everything and it is a very close but no hit clearance, definite pinching hazard that I will try to avoid. I did get an email reply from a gentleman who had to shim his to get it level. I don't think I will have to unless adding the body to the frame changes anything.

For others I add the comment that there are two lengths of folding arms for luggage racks. If my memory is correct 1930 Chevrolets had longer arms than the later 1931-32 racks.

Yes, the 29-30 rack has longer lower arms because the gas tank apron is flat across whereas the 31-32 apron is dished or recessed in the middle.

I found this on Bill's 31 Chevrolet site and posting incase of future searches. Not sure if the picture of the spacer is special or not.

Did your question get answered to your satisfaction?
If the '31 and '32 are the same I'll be happy to take some photos of mine.

Thanks Craig, If you can post a close up of the washer as mounted that would be good to compare to the accessory brochure on Bill's site. If you have trouble posting it you can email to me at doc81709@yahoo.com.

thanks

I have photos for you.
On my car it looks more like a pad than a spacer which was undoubtedly done at the body shop that did the paint job before I got the car but the rack is totally parallel with the ground.

Looks like an aftermarket pad to protect the paint and not a factory spacer to me. If a paint protecting pad were installed when the car was new it would have been coated fabric not rippled rubber as in the photo. A spacer would have been metal.

Have a friend with a 1930 trunk rack on his 1932 Cabriolet. The rack is higher in the back than up next to the body. That is because the folding arms are longer then the 1931-2s. That would require spacer if the '31-2 rack was installed on a 1930.
