Hello daves30, I will go toward thinking that the carbs accelerator pump is not functioning. If a pop is the same thing as a miss, the next cylinder to fire does not have the fuel to continue a smooth acceleration. Eventually, continuing to slowly bring the rpm higher, you have a steady engine. Do you have popping or hesitation when you shift to a higher gear and bring the throttle up?

In my ”˜37 the popping sound is my knee trying to flex when I push on the clutch!

First try to close down the idle adjustment mixture screw a little. A little richer idle mixture can often eliminate the pop from low speed idle.

Hello daves30, Maybe your boss lady is hinting at an electric powered conversion. Pretty funny. Chipper seems to be on the issue. Too lean a mixture at idle might be it. If the exhaust muffler an/or pipe isn't partially restricted, and the engine appears to run well at higher RPM, you may consider a lean fuel mixture. Check for vacuum leaks also.
