Hello,

I replaced the old brushes, which were out of order, on my 1930 Chevrolet delco remy generator. When I connect the A terminal to the + of the battery, the ground and the F terminal to the -, the generator turns. That should polarized it if I am not wrong ?

When I reinstall it on the engine, it does not charge the battery.

Is someone can help me ?

Regulator issue ? How can I check it ?

Thank you for your help,

Edmond

When I put new brushes in the 3 brush generator on my ”˜37 I wired the brushes incorrectly. The generator would run as a motor but would not charge. When I correctly connected the brushes things worked great.

Also, check the cutout to make sure it will close when voltage is applied to the coil. Be sure that there is continuity across the contacts when the points are closed.

Unless someone has converted your car to a newer system it does not have a regulator.

Sounds like armature failure. A generator will motor but not necessarily generate when installed inn the car. Look closely if you can at the armature. Normally all the copper bars are the same colour. Where the armature has failed you will find 2 or 3 bars next to each other will be a darker color.

Similar problem with my 1926 capitol. When I bench test it with battery it spins fine but when I disconnect the F terminal from ground it cuts out instead of spinning up suggesting no charge. Can anyone confirm if I am correct that the armature is faulty.
