What type of sparkplugs do you recommend for the 235 in our ”˜49 Chevy pickup? Battery is 12 volt and starter 6 volt. Thank you!

I use A/C R-46 plugs in my 235 and have always been very happy with them. hood

It would on hw your car is driven. i found the AC45R works fine for me and an AC45 wAS FACTORY INSTALLED IN 235 ENGINES FROM 1953 AND UP, NO "R" OR RESISTOR PLUGS BACK THEN. aLSO THE R45 IS STILL BEING MADE AND SOLD TODAY.

We just got it and rebuilding. Trying to get it running and needs new sparkplugs. Guy at Napa said their computer recommended a AC43R...

The #43 spark plug is a very cold plug and would be used for heavy duty trucking and racing.

While the AC 43R will work in your car I agree with Gene that the 45R is a better plug for your application. It is 2 heat ranges hotter.

The oldest AC Sparkplug catalog I have (1956) shows a 44-5 plug for all 1949 trucks up to 1 1/2 ton. This would mean that a modern "5" heat range would be good. 44-5 equates to roughly a 4.5 heat range. The C45 is the same as the 45 or R45 except it is a commercial plug having thicker electrodes making them heavy duty. They will perform the same as the non-commercial plugs.

The AC 44-5 and 46-5 plugs were discontinued yeas ago.
THE S plug had an entended tip. Ths was used to better burn the lead deposits of from the tip. Use of the S plug is no longer necessary and the extended tip tended to burn holes in the top of the pistons in 235 engines in heavy dut service.
