Hello all, I had read somewhere that in 1953 Chevrolet had introduced power steering in their cars and that each dealer was sent one demonstrator car for customers to try out to encourage ordering their new 53 with this feature. Also I read somewhere that the demo cars were all painted India ivory with a red top (paint code 517) whether it was a Bel-Air or the 210. Does anyone have any information on these cars, or is it an urban legend? If it is true, has anyone seen one? Just curious, thanks for reading!

It was up the dealer to order a car with power steerig. In small town dealerships where they sold oly a hand full of cars each year they probably did not get much call for power steering in a low priced car.

The red over white demonstrsators could be any 210 or Bel air sedan. My father had a 210 4 door with a standard transmision for a demo.

In 1950 a demo special was a deluxe 4 door with Power Glide. Color was soid light gray with dark red wheels.

My grandfather purchased a 53 Belair 4 dr sedan dealer demonstrator car in late 53 just before the 54's came out. It was red over white with powerglide but did not have power steering.

Thanks for the replies, I have never seen red over white in person, just a photo of one, I wonder how popular that color combination was. I see more Horizon blue , Woodland green than anything else.
