I have a Guide 6004 self cancelling turn signal unit in my car. It was working when I left for a short drive today. On the way back, I noticed that the indicator bulb was not lighting up when I engaged the turn signals. When I got home, I did check to see if the turn signals were working and they were not. If the indicator bulb in the turn signal unit does not light up, will that affect the entire system?

The indicator bulb operation does not affect turn signal operation. There is separate wiring on that control to make the indicator bulb flash regardless of which direction you are turning.

I expect that the bulb is burned out or the ground to the switch housing has come loose.

The first thing I did was check to see if the in-line fuse was good, which it was. I ran a jumper wire from the bottom of the dash to the turn signal unit and I got it to work. Pretty paint does not make a good ground. I going to scrape off some paint in a inconspicuous place, clean it with alcohol, apply some dielectric grease and tighten it down.
