Hello all! This is my first post on this forum. We just bought a 1949 Chevy 3100 pickup to restore. Our first restoration project. In getting to know our truck, I researched the numbers stamped on the engine block (3769716) and head (3836848). Apparently the block was manufactured between 1958-62, but the head in 1956. Is this common to have a different manufacturing date for each or did someone replace one?? Thanks guys!!

The 3836848 head waa used in porduction from 1956-1962.

Thank you! I can’t find any info on the block - 3769716. Can you help? There’s B21 then 848 and under that is 850 stamped on the top rim of the block. Can you please tell me what these numbers mean? Thank you very much for your assistance!

I think you mean top rim of the head.

The block casting number 3769716 was used on some 1959-1962 235 engines.
The numbers you have listed so far are raised numbers on the castng, These are called casting numbers.
The stamped numbers on the block in on the raised ledge to the rear of the distributor. It will give more Info. as to what year and application of the engine,

Yes, the head. Ok I’ll look for a stamped number on the block. What hood are these raised casting numbers on the head? Just curious.
