Hi,

I am a new member from GA. I recently purchased an AC L-1 oil canister fir my 1940 Chevrolet 1 1/2 ton truck. It is an old Railway Express Truck. It is very rough but for now just collecting parts. I purchased an AC L-1 oil filter canister sans the brackets. The brackets are probably harder to find than the canister although it took me a while to get one. Does anyone have these? I did find many replacement cartridges which is good. I can look on the parts but and trade. I came here first to introduce myself. I will post photos later.

The 216 is in queue for a boring job and complete build by Nabors Automotive. I am putting inserts in and aluminum pistons. It’s a slow process.

Looking forward to discussions on the forums.

Welcome Lynwood!

I do have a l-1 but no extra brackets to help you but will take a look and post photos which might help. I am pretty close to you and have some parts but most are earlier than 40.

The VCCA is a good organization to join and well worth the dues as is the Heart of Georgia region.

Let me know if I can help

Thank you Dave. Yes you are close. I am at Nabor’s, Sosobee’s and other places in Lawrenceville often. My 39 Chevy and 40 truck are in South Carolina right now. They are both works in progress.

I am sure brackets can be made.

Take care,

Lynwood

I agree that your easiest solution will probably be to fabricate brackets. I suggest that you buy your u-bolts first. It will be easier to locate the holes in the brackets knowing the spacing of the u-bolt legs rather than finding u-blots to fit where you drilled the holes.

There are lots of pictures on the internet to give you ideas of where and how to locate the filter housing.

Remember to include the hose routings as a factor in your decisions about mounting the filter.

I will try and post the instruction but they might not help. I could make copies and mail them if needed. Sosebee's is the best, Dan and Jim are making Ray proud. I buy my mowers, saws and ACDelco parts from them.

Thank you all for the information. I sort of figured I would need to fab something up for this. I am a long, long way off from doing a lot with this 40 truck other than collecting parts. If it was finished, I hope to get the chassis here later once I get over some newly developed back issues. I can work on the chassis in my basement garage and keep it out of site in the neighborhood.
