I was wondering if anyone is using a smaller tire on front than the back of their 28 truck. Mine has 6.50-20 on back and 6.00-20 on front. Can you tell me why?

Would love to see pictures of your truck, and wondering what part of TN you are in. We have a daughter and family that lives in Franklin and get down there to visit now and then.
To your question on tire size; from my understanding, the sole reason for running the slightly larger tire on the rear is for some additional speed.

Thank you David. I have only had this truck for 30 years :) but we are on it now steadily so my wife can have her 66 Mustang restored next. My brother and I have been putting some time here lately on it. It is still in the rough. Re-doing frame up and keeping it as original as possible. I think you are right on the tire size along with pulling power. We live in northwest TN. , about 2 hours from Franklin. Have friends in Franklin also. Thank you for responding. As we get it further together I will post some pictures.

I think the larger size on the rear was frequently an option (or later field installation) used to increase the the load carrying capacity (GVW) of the truck.
Generally a wider tire can carry a heavier load.
And most (sometimes all) of the payload on old trucks was carried on the rear axle.

This is a good post about why the tire size.
I'd like my truck to not look jacked up, so I may just look into what my gain would be just doing the 29 ring and pinion (if I can find one)
I just received my 4 brand new Firestone 6.00x20 tires and rims with wheels with new spokes and rims off ebay sale. It was a great deal!

My truck is kinda a basket case right now, but making some progress. I can relate to the Mustang. I have a 67 Cougar I redid.
