What color should the (3) guards/covers that bolt to the underside of the bell housing on my '31? I would assume they (along with the bell housing) should be engine color, not black like the transmission, correct?

Engine color makes the most sense since they bolt to the bell housing. About 10 or 15 years ago, my dad rebuild his '31 engine and painted them black but doesn't remember why.
