I cannot find the thread discussing the improved taillight bulbs recommended by Chev Nut. It must be buried under another subject.

Mr. Nut, would you please restate which bulbs should replace the original low candle power bulbs?

The original bulbs were 3 candle power #63.....about as bright as a candle.

The 87 6 CP bulb has the same size glass globe and works well for the tail lamp (by 1935 standards).

I use #1129 for the brake lights. Its 21 CP, same as the later dual filament 1154 bulb (6 V).May require a slight adjustemt to get the larger globe to fit when instaling the lens.

Even with the brighter bulbs the lights can be difficult to see in bright sunlight + modern people driving modern cars are accustomed to ultra bright lights.

I started researching a project of making my own LED replacements for the tail and brake lights for my '23. I haven't gotten very far though. I need to get back to that soon.

Hey Chevgene,

When I was working on my tail lights the 87 is really to large, I ended up using the number #81 bulb which is the same size as the #63 and is 6 CP.

Hi Chris,

Have you look at this web page on LED lights? Flip Flop LED I'm planning on buying an LED replacement at the Portland Swap Meet next week. They have one that I think will work nicely. I'll post a picture when I get one and let you know if they fit in my 34 tail light.

You are correct. A 6 cp is a 81 and a 15 cp is an 87 .The 87 and 1129 are the same size.Old age setting in. wink

I had looked around at some, but had not found that one. Please let us know how it works out.

Thanks for posting the pictures.
