Hi I’m new to this site and just purchased a 1926 Chevy touring superior K I see that the engine has exposed push rods and lifters is there supposed to be a cover or shield to stop the splashing of oil and dripping oil under the car ? Do I apply motor oil directly on them or is it lubricated from inside the block ? Thanks for any help Another question should I turn off the fuel shut off valve / lever which is located in the fuel line next to the engine every time or just long storage ?

Welcome to the VCCA Chatter Forum. This is the place to get the most accurate preservation and restoration information.
There was no side cover over the push rods until 1928. The lifters are oiled from inside the block but it does not hurt to occasionally add a drop. The will also be lubricated by oil applied to the rocker arms and top of the push rods every 50 miles or so.
I shut off the fuel valve at long stops during the day. It does three things. One reduce any fuel drips, keeps from overfilling carburetor in the oft chance the needle/seat might not 100% seal and acts as an effective anti-theft device.

Thank you my friend! I appreciate the advice Do I lubricant the rockers by removing the valve cover or applying oil thru the small holes on too if the cover ? What oil do you recommend? Do you run regular pump gas and add an additive to the fuel?

If you have the felt pad in place and it is saturated in oil it is only necessary to add a little through the holes in the top of the valve cover. Periodically take off the valve cover and check the felt pad. You may find you need to add a little more each time to keep it saturated. Over saturation runs down the sides of the engine.
Most of us use modern 10W-30 oil It is the best to replace the 20 weight oil recommended for most of the year and USA locations by Chevrolet.
I try to use non-ethanol gas. There is no need for other additives unless you are going to store the car for extended periods. In that case an additive to extend the life of the gasoline and reduce corrosion can help. I normally drain my gas tank, carburetor bowl and vacuum fuel pump instead.
