I am replacing the plastic insert on my 1928 light switch and have a couple of questions; should the rotating element of the switch be lubed? If yes what lube should be used?

Vasoline works quite nicely.

There is also a product that looks very similar to Vaseline that is sold at swimming pool supply stores for use on outdoor switches and PVC pipe threads, etc. I was told (by the pool mechanic not the seller of the product) that I needed to use it instead of the Vaseline I had been using...suppose to not attract dirt or whatever...
I’m not by any means an expert on it I just wanted to pass the information on to you it might be 'mouse milk' but it does work great.

JWP,
You don't have to be a rocket scientist to realize Ray has forgot more about 28's than most others have ever learned. Stick with him on this one!
Gator's recipe will probably get you a good batch of mouse cottage cheese!
