Are disc and wood spoke wheels on a 1928 Chevy interchangeable?

To do so you need different brake drums.

And you'll need the wheel hubs that go with each type of wheel

I’ve never seen my 28 with wheels. However, I do have the brake drums. How do I know which ones I have? Spoke or disc. Thanks. Jim

If Your front drum/hub assemblies have 6 studs on a 5-1/2"center then you have the disc wheel type. On the wood spoked type the drum is bolted to the wood wheel, and the whole assembly comes off with the spindle nut.

Wood wheels have 6 carriage bolts on a 5" diameter. Disc wheels have 6 lug bolts on a 5.5" diameter pattern like most Chevys made till 1948, most Chevy 4X4 small trucks, most small Japanese small trucks except 2WD Toyota. Most Roadsters had wood wheels, most sedans had disc. Fisher bodied Chevys had more disc than Holden bodied Chevys. Most Commercial (half ton) Chassis and all Utility (One Ton) chassis had wood wheels. . There are 4 bolts that hold the tire & rim to the wheel. I don't know if the tire and rim will interchange with both wheels. . . . Lou

Thanks for the info, everyone! I just bought a 28 frame and drive train for building a speedster. Right now it has disc wheels on it, but I really haven't settled on whether I want disc or spoke on the finished product. My previous speedster was built using Ford A and T frame and drive parts, and I like that the Chevy with its longitudinal springs will force me to do things differently. I may have more neophyte questions in the future since I know little about Chevys of this era.

There is a large speedster club in the Northwest. I think it has a site called of all things NW Speedsters. There are a few Chevrolet speedsters on there.

That is one interesting vehicle. The John Deere radiator causes me some confusion. Slow methodical tractor merged into a speedster.

It has a two-cylinder flat head engine from an old Deere combine that will spin the rear wheels (heavy flywheel). Here is an article on it. https://greenmagazine.com/the-john-deere-speedster/
