Don't need to reinvent the wheel. Purchase your paint from either the Filling Station, or Chev's of the 40's. Engine paint has been beat to death on this Forum, both sources have the correct paint color.

I am not aware of a paint code for the dark blue gray six cylinder engine paint. It is available from The Filling Station and also I suspect a few other part suppliers. Several VCCA members many years ago participated on a project with The Filling Station to verify the correct color and make it available. At the time other suppliers falsely claimed their paint color was correct.

While I agree that both vendors have the "correct" color engine paint I don't understand why the color can not be duplicated by any normal auto paint shop. Just seems strange that there are thousands of colors and types of paint that can be mixed locally and the Chevy gray engine paint is not one of them. Unless someone is doing a Chevy for VCCA judging I see no reason to pay twice what other vendors sell their version of Chevy gray for. The extra cost is a drop in the bucket if doing a high end restoration, especially if you are paying someone to apply it.

I have had enamel in the correct Chevrolet early 6 color locally mixed. I took an original painted part that was scanned and duplicated. I also have an original can of paint from a Chevrolet dealer but have not opened it lately to paint a panel.

The problem I see with universally available paint code is that each manufacturer and even paint types within a manufacturer have different mixing colors. Now if a modern production vehicle were to be painted the desired color then it would be available in several manufacturers and systems.
