I have someone locally selling off some spare 28 chevy parts and there is what looks to be a nice set of rear fenders. Add doesn't say weather car or truck, but I'm guessing car. Would these rear fenders work, or be the same as what's on a 27LM truck. Here is a link. I wish he still had the headlights. All I have are the buckets on my project, and need the lenses.
Thanks for the reply Mike. Just for my future reference in looking what are the differences? Could I be looking at other car/trucks? These looked for the most part right other than not seeming to have quite the 'rooster tail' at the trailing edge of them that I have seen in pics. David
David, PM a direct email or text number to me and I will send you a picture of the fender you need. Generally, you are looking for the same raised beading pattern as is on your front fenders.
David, The truck rear mudguards have a larger radius to accommodate the 20" rear tyres. The truck guards(front & rear),look similar to '25/'26 passenger car ones except for the following:
The "skirt" on the front guards from the edge of the guard down to where it sits on the chassis rail is slightly longer, the front guards also have the larger radius to take the 20" wheels & tyres
The rear guards have a "Z" shaped 1/4' thick steel bracket that is held to 2 screw holes on the inside edge of the guard closest to the chassis rail, and there are 2 1/4" holes in the chassis rail that it screws to.
Truck front & rear guards are the same from 1925 - 1928
So is the radius of the fender itself is smaller on the rear is what I am hearing. I have found pics online that show the difference in shape of fenders with 28 being basically a smooth design and 27 having a bead ridge to them. I was hoping the 28 fenders would at least have the same radius even though styling is a bit off. I did check on some fenders at a salvage place out in CO, but they are looking at 1400.00 for the pair. Yikes!
To clarify CJP'S 29 comment, the fenders for the 1925 - 1928 one ton trucks are the same. Not so for the cars. The 1927 and 1928 cars had the smooth-crowned fenders, whereas the one ton trucks retained the beaded ridge.
I believe the 1/2 ton and car fenders would be narrower than the one ton fenders because the 1/2 ton tires are narrower than the one ton tires.
For example, the width of Lurch's front fenders (he does not have rear fenders) are 9 inches and I have a beaded-ridge rear fender in my stash that is only 8 inches wide. That's why I think my spare rear fender would fit a car or 1/2 ton truck, but not be correct for a one ton truck.
Below are pics of the spare rear fender.
Cheers, Dean

Dean 'Rustoholic' Meltz old and ugly is beautiful!
David, the proper truck rear guards have a larger radius to suit the 20" tyres. Dean,I merely pointed out the 2 differences between '25/'26 passenger car front/rear guards versus the '25 - '28 truck front & rear guards
