Here are some pictures of a 42-47 radio that I have restored. It is United Motors Service Model Number 986146, The speaker is mounted inside the chassis enclosure which is the truck configuration. When I got the radio it came with a speaker mounting plate (see last picture) which I assume is for external mounting. Is this what was used for mounting the speaker in a car? Was this a dealer installed radio? Any additional info you might have on the application of this radio would be appreciated.

Thanks, Bob

That radio is a universal radio for use in the truck or car. The speaker is mounted inside the case for use in the truck. When mounted in the car the speaker is removed and mounted on the plate shown in figure 5 above. This plate is mounted upright on top of the case so the speaker faces through the dash.
The radio operates marginally in either the truck or car due to road noise.

I restored one that was installed in a COE. It turned out that it was impossible to hear going down the road!

My 1951 1 Ton is now on the road! My 38 Master 4 Door is also now on the road .
