We are making great progress on my friend’s ”˜49 3100. We are fairly confident that it will be running by 17 April for our first of the season Cars & Coffee on the levee on the Mississippi River in LeClaire.

I am doing a general cleaning and check of the distributor. Overall it is in very good condition.

The breaker plate has 1112353 as the model number and 9J32 as the serial number. Is this the correct distributor for a 1949 truck? We do know that the block is from a 1951 truck.

I was surprised to see that this distributor still has the hard plastic plug and spring in the grease galley for shaft. Most of the time the plug gets worn away and the spring gets ground up

Is it normal for that plug to wear a groove in the shaft? This one is pretty significant. Or was there a grove machined for that plug to ride on.

What controls the depth that the distributor housing goes into the block? Is there a shoulder or stop in the block that the bottom of the housing hits?

What was the thickness of the original thrust washer? I need to add one to make sure the bottom of the plate that holds the weights does not ride on the inside of the housing. It does not look like that washer can be very thick. There is very little space between the top of the gear and the bottom of the housing.

The distributor is from a 1949. There was no washer used.The dist. will go down and stop at its own level.

It did not look like there was enough room for a thrust washer in this application even though the ”˜54 parts book indicates one was used.
