I’m converting a propane fuel’d 53 bel air back to gas. I want to replace my fuel pump but with a glass bowl preferably. Anyone have any specific fuel pump they suggest? It’s a 216 3 on the tree.
I agree with Gene that if it is the correct engine for a ”˜53 car it is a 235. It will have hydraulic lifters but will not be a full pressure engine because it is a manual transmission car. In ”˜53 only the Powerglide engines were full pressure.
Not sure if that has any impact on which fuel pump was used.
IF IT HAS A STANDARD TRANSMISSION IT WII HAVE SOLID LIFTERS, CAST IRON PISTONS AND DIPPERS ON THE RODS., iF POWER GLIDE HYD. LIFTERS,ALUMINUM PISTONS AND FULL PRESSURE OILING.
oh wow, I had no idea, okay I guess I will go with the same kind that is currently in it right now. Oreillys got me but I just like how the glass bowls look. thank you!
OK, see if I have this right. A 1953 Chev with manual trans would have come with a 235CI motor, splash dippers & solid lifters. I always was under the impression 53 manual car came with a 216CI motor. Pls confirm which is correct. Thanks

I am sttil weak and getting home thereapy. Also have urninary problems. Can stand but still not walking. Some problems due t my ongoing polio weakness. just happy to be home and able to take care of most of my needs.
On top of the manifold? You mean valve cover? If you are referring to the valve cover, my 53 210 Powerglide 235 has the two studs through the valve cover to hold it down rather than the four fasteners on the corners.

All 1929-1953 engines has two in the center. All 1954 and up engines had four screws on the edges of the valve cover. All 235 engines from 1950 and up have the low 6 inch push rod cover. The push rod cover went all the way up tot he rocker arm cover on a 216.
I had a '53 business coupe with low pressure 235, first car. It was not great...ate a couple rods with high speed (60) trailer pulling. I did keep it going for about 10 yr, at very low cost. Dad got a rebuilt '54 wagon with high pressure engine about 1960. It was superb and did many hard pulls with no complaint. I wouldn't mind having one now, never a problem. WL
