Does anybody know when they changed the hood sidepanels during the 1931 model year? And what the reasoning was?

I have a car that was made on or around Dec 7th 1930 that has the old style hood (smaller raised panel around louvers).

The common story 40+ years ago was early and late hoods. The "early" (smaller raised panel) was also claimed to have less louvers which was not correct. They both have the same number of louvers. I suspect that each assembly plant had a different change over date. Canada used the "early" hood much longer than did the US. I am convinced that the larger raised panel gave more stability to the hood. I have both types in my collection.

I believe that rigidity and stability was the reason too Chipper. As for when it changed, I have never seen anything stating when.

I doubt the documentation still exists.
