I read an article in the 12/2020 G&D regarding trans lube recommending Valvoline MTF and a few others for Muncie and and Saginaw transmissions. Is this lube something that should be used in a 1950 Chevrolet 3 speed manual transmission?

Just go to a part store and get 140/90 gear lube.
