Need to have the clutch throwout bearing rebuilt or replaced

Having trouble matching, the part number: 837023-4 does not come up anywhere
There is also a 62 stamped on top

Are there any sources that rebuild them. I contacted The Filling Station and it doesn't come up on their system. I'm happy with NOS or NORS

...trying to get the summer car on the road by spring

Last year on March 23 I had purchased a replacement carbon throw out bearing for my 1936 Standard FC from the Filling Station. It has been in the car since April last year and works great. Give them a call they will probably be able to help.

For anyone looking for 1929-37 except 1933-34 Standard car carbon throw out bearing assemblies, we have a few NORS ones in stock made by Master and Dorman years ago. They are $90.00 or $100.00 with the 2 x retainer clip. bob@marxparts.com

I have seen articles written describing a modification from the carbon bearing to a modern type throwout bearing. Maybe that info can be found.

The trouble with using a real bearing is that it would need to be perfectly centered around the input shaft to work properly and not tear itself up. The carbon doesn't care.

I do not believe the front bearing retainers on these transmissions have any sort of a support sleeve around the input shaft to center the bearing. A new custom front bearing retainer might have to be made.

There are multiple sources for a replacement carbon throw out bearing.

Unless there is a specific issue or problem I suggest that the conversion is not worth the effort. You need to adapt a sleeve to properly support the bearing as bloo noted. Plus you need to adapt a different clutch arm and pivot. It also complicates the service issue for any future owner.

I have had no issues with the carbon throw out bearing in my ”˜37 over the 4000+ miles I have driven it the last 4 years. I do a lot of stop and go driving in town. I do not know if it is the original one or maybe has been replaced once. The car has 52,000 miles on it.

The average carbon T.O beaing will last for 100,000 miles. If you plan on driving that far at 2000 miles a year it will last you for 50 years. auto
